Currently, I am reading the book 'Atomic habits' and in that, I was on a part where the author James Clear said " Make the bad habits difficult to do and the good habits easier."
That does make sense, doesn't it? I read ahead. He gave an example of a person who used a timer fuse (or something like that). So, at 10 pm automatically the wifi of his house would go out. And he would have nothing to do but read a book, Talk to his wife, or just go to sleep. After reading that, the first thought that popped in my head was, That's impossible for me to do. WHAT IF I have an urgent deadline? WHAT IF I have some urgent work I'll have to take care of! And thoughts similar to this.
Even before starting this 30-day challenge with so many college submissions and internship work on top of my head, I had several reasons not to start. Then why did I? I am glad you asked! After I kept my kindle on the side after reading about this wifi cutting thing, At first I was all against it and thought it was impossible for me to do because I had some genuine reasons. And I turned off the lights in my room as I went to sleep that day at 10:30 pm.
The next morning reflecting on what I read, I realized the reasons that I had to not start the 30-Day challenge was something that didn't happen every day. Not every day I am going to have some urgent work. Not every day I would have an impossible deadline which will keep me from writing. And even if it is so, I would have to plan my work accordingly. Always making sure I keep at least 20 minutes to write something. And who can't take 20 minutes out of their life?
We don't start good habits or stop doing bad ones because we feel we have a genuine reason for it. But it turns out most of them are "WHAT IF's" and "Once upon a time" kind.
Next time when you give yourself a reason to do or not do something take into consideration one more aspect. Is the reason a WHAT IF situation? Because if it is, then just do it anyway as it was just your mind who was giving you excuses to not get out of your comfort zone.
That's the reason I started with this challenge. I can't wait to see what you do!
This was DAY 3 and boy was I out of my schedule! Writing this at 11:00 pm. Glad I could do it! See you guys tomorrow!
DAY (3/30)
